What Was That Thing in the Sky Last Night Over the Midcoast?

Very early this morning several people in the Boothbay Harbor peninsula area reported a  loud boom and possible shaking. Some even caught a bright light shooting across the sky on their security cams according to WMTW.com.

The story says the boom was reported around 12:15am as far east as the Midcoast and as far west as Limington in York County.

Some even say they thought it was an earthquake but as of 7 this morning the United States Geological Survey had not reported any earthquakes in the area, according to the article.

So what was it? A UFO? A meteor? And what caused the low rumble that several people heard and felt in the cold early morning hours?
