I've heard my fair share of dialects over the years, having lived in a number of states as a military brat. Even within a state, there are slight nuances in the way the English language is spoken. Texas is a great example of this. I lived in San Antonio when I was 18, and there is a difference between a West Texas and an East Texas drawl. Texas Monthly describes it best: West Texans have a "flat, nasal twang," and East Texans have a "soft, musical drawl." By the way, Texas is at the top of the list of the top ten sexiest accents in the United States for the second year in a row, according to the travel website, Big 7.

Sometimes, the differences within a state are so subtle that only a trained ear can hear it. I think Massachusetts is a good example, because I can't tell the difference between a Bostonian and someone from another part of the state.

Speaking of Boston, Massachusetts, it is number three on the top ten sexiest accents list. One more New England state made the cut. Maine came in at number 8. So, if you think New England accents are sexy, you're not alone.

If you're wondering, New York takes second place, Alabama is fourth, and Chicago is fifth on the list, as per Big 7. See the rest of the top ten here.
