Travel Back in Time With a 1996 Flyer From a Toys R’ Us Store in Maine

As we age, it becomes easier to look back at a time when we were kids and think of how much simpler things were "way back then". Our judgement is often clouded by just how good things were, unless those memories involve the video games that kept us all happy. So it's not surprise that an old 1996 flyer from a Toys R' Us store in Bangor, Maine, went viral when it was shared on Reddit recently by beastheadbutt.

Since toy stores don't follow the practice anymore, it was quite common to get a multi-page flyer in the mail or through the newspaper featuring all of the newest and hottest toys. Speaking of hottest toys, at the moment in time this flyer was printed, the Nintendo 64 was IT, and as the flyer proclaims "THE FUTURE IS NOW".

A flip of the page shows that Nintendo wasn't the only game in town. The original Sony Playstation was still happening. Considering people are desperately searching for Playstation 5 these days, this flyer makes it feel like the original Playstation was a lifetime ago. Look at those game prices.

Page three of the flyer may come as a surprise to even the most ardent video game nerd. Do you remember the Sega Saturn? If you're shaking your head no, you wouldn't be alone. The Sega Saturn was a colossal flop, hence the reason you could purchase the entire console for $99.

Pages four and five of the flyer are an even deeper throwback for video game fanatics. Some of the featured 'new' games are some of the last games made for both the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis consoles before they were put out to pasture.
