This Maine Family-Owned Chocolate Shop Has a Dr. Shah-Theme Candy Bar
When I was younger and my family and I were exploring all the, "must-see" spots in Maine, we would often find ourselves visiting Freeport.
As you know, Freeport has the famous L.L.Bean and it's where many out-of-towners and tourists come to visit, however, this place will always live in my memory.
The first thing I remember about Wilbur's of Maine Chocolate Confections, is the smell. Walking into this candy shop is a child's dream. You instantly put yourself in the movie, "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" and I felt like I had won the golden ticket!
Now, Wilbur's has expanded. They were founded in 1983, according to their website, and has grown exponentially since then! I was on their site recently because I want to take my son to visit and I noticed something shockingly hilarious.
Hold onto your hats! Wilbur's is now offering a Dr. Shah Themed Candy Bar!
According to the website, their are 6 bars in one set. The flavors include, Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate with Crispy Rice or Milk Chocolate Almonds. You can also mix your pack with 2 of each of the 4 flavors.
If you have been hiding under a rock since Covid hit, Dr. Shah is "the Director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Previously, he served as the Director of the Illinois Department of Health," according to PD Soros Fellowship for New Americans.
He has been a very big presence on television and social media in regards to the virus and providing the information that Mainer's need to deal with Covid.
Here is Dr. Shah on YouTube doing a briefing on Covid, via Zoom, with Jennifer Rooks of Maine Public.
It's very creative and humorous for Wilbur's of Maine to make light of a tough situation by designing a treat with Dr. Shah as the focus.
Wilbur's of Maine's website states that while you,
Tune into your COVID-19 update with Dr. Shah (Director of the Maine CDC) while enjoying a premium chocolate bar emblazoned with Dr. Shah’s image (on the wrapper only).
The bars cost you $13.50-$18.00 and 10% of the sales are going to the Freeport Community Service Food Pantry in Freeport, according to Wilbur's.
