One of the things that gives Maine it's charm is the number of old churches throughout the state. Some of them even date as far back to before the United States gained its independence in the 1700s.

Many of these churches still stand but are no longer used as a house of worship. As church attendance has continued to decline in the twenty-first century, more and more of these churches are finding other uses. Some have become antique shops, some restaurants and many have been converted into housing, either as single-family homes or apartments.

The Oak Hill Chapel in Standish was built in 1910 and served as a place of worship for the Standish area for years until it was converted into a stunning, open concept home that has turned the first floor that used to contain rows of pews into a giant living room and kitchen with 12-foot ceilings, wide pine floors. Outside, there's plenty of space including a pear tree, gardens, a stone wall, and a very large back deck.

We all know that housing prices are through the roof,  but you may be surprised to learn after seeing what the church looks like on the inside now, that is on the market through Josh Plowman of Maine Real Estate Experts for just $475,000.

If you're looking for a unique home, on a private road on Oak Hill in Standish with a nearby pond and lots of space, this may be for you.

Update: Looks like someone may already have jumped on this and it is currently listed as pending.
