The Portland Players Open Their Season With ‘The Wedding Singer’
The Portland Players are opening their season with "The Wedding Singer." The Broadway musical is based on the 1998 romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. It's playing now through October 6, 2019 at The Portland Players theater, located at 420 Cottage Road in South Portland, according to its press release. The show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $18 for senior citizens, and $15 for students and children. However, this Sunday, September 29th, is Student Sunday, and tickets for all students and kids are $6.

After being jilted and left at the altar, Robbie, a wedding singer with dreams of stardom, finds himself enamored by Julia, a waitress at the reception hall where he performs. Julia, is currently engaged to Glenn, a straight laced, Wall Street, bond investor and business man. Robbie falls into a deep, destructive depression, and manages to ruin the wedding for one of the parties he sings for, ending with his being thrown into a dumpster. Through a series of events and misadventures, Julia and Robbie, keep finding themselves thrown together and eventually feelings grow. Through the fun and energetic music, we follow their story and hope that Julia can save Robbie from being a washed up bar mitzvah singer for the rest of his life.
