Augusta

Augusta is a city in Maine with a population of over 18,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. It is located in Kennebec County and is the capital of the state.

According to Britannica, Augusta got its name in 1797 after Pamela Augusta, the daughter of the Revolutionary War general Henry Dearborn. The state government operates in this city, and it became the capital in 1827.

Some of the attractions in Augusta include the Old Western Fort, State Capital Building, Children's Discovery Museum and the Augusta Civic Center. It is also home to the University of Maine at Augusta.
