A new takeout restaurant has opened up in the Maine Mall food court that got its start at Portland's Fork Food Lab.

Soul Food Paradise has taken the spot formerly occupied by Arby's in the Maine Mall's food court and offers several varieties of chicken, pork chops, baked mac n cheese and cornbread among other sides.

According to the Portland Press Herald,  the restaurant is owned and operated by Martin Beavers and he has signed a three year lease on the space in the Maine Mall's food court. According to the Soul Food Paradise website's "About Us" section, beavers created the menu to "pay homage to the comfort foods my mother made for our large family growing up in the Bronx."

Beavers told the Press Herald that he believes that Soul Food Paradise may be the first restaurant of its kind in a mall food court.

Soul Food Paradise is open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to -7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
