Scarborough, Maine Building Transformed With Mural by Portland Artist

A building in Scarborough is catching the attention of the community and people driving on Gorham Road with a brand new mural.

The Fiddlehead Center for the Arts and Spillers Reprographics are right next door to each other and teamed up for a community project to transform a gray wall of Spiller's building into a magnificent work of art.

Fiddlehead provides after-school enrichment for kids at Eight Corners and Wentworth Elementary Schools. After a community GoFundMe campaign raised over $1000 in a week, Fiddlehead connected with graffiti artist and muralist Mike Rich to create the mural.

Rich visited with the kids at Fiddelhead to ask them what Fiddlehead means to them and based on their responses, created the 30 x 18 foot mural that celebrates art, science and music.

This beautiful piece of artwork would not have been possible without local residents and businesses coming together to lend a hand. Fiddlehead executive director Oona Gilles-Weil was very grateful to all those who lended a hand. "We are so happy to have the community's support as well as from our business partners at Spillers Reprographics who donated their site," Giles-Weil said in a press release. "Oak Hill Ace Hardware, United Rentals and Hammond Lumber also donated materials and equipment. We could not have done this without them."

The next time you're driving on Gorham Road in Scarborough, keep an eye out for the mural as you approach the intersection of Gorham and Payne roads. Trust me. You can't miss it.
