Okay, this is one of those cool Maine things you can miss pretty easily because you’re expecting to find it in some fancy resort somewhere, not right here.

Sitting pretty inside Salt Spa Wellness in Windham is a salt room and private salt cave, where you can basically go sit down, relax and breathe salty air for 45 minutes.

My mother-in-law Joanne told me about this experience and she said she wish she'd done it sooner in life.

And honestly? Salt Spa & Wellness sounds like a pretty solid excuse to do absolutely nothing for an hour.

It’s called halotherapy, or dry salt therapy.

According to their Instagram, during a session, a machine called a halogenerator disperses tiny pharmaceutical-grade salt particles into the air while you sit in the room.

The idea is to recreate the environment of a salt cave while you relax. It helps with stress and even congestion! Take a peak at their Instagram page below.

And you don’t need to show up knowing what you’re doing. The spa says there’s no special preparation, just wear comfortable clothes, settle in and relax.

Some people meditate, some nap, and some apparently just sit there enjoying the fact that nobody is asking them to do anything.

So if you’re looking for a random little Maine wellness discovery to put on your “things I didn’t know existed” list, a salt room might be worth checking out.

Because sometimes self-care is apparently just… sitting in a room full of salt.
