Recently the National Park Service released a warning on Facebook explaining that if you come face to face with a bear, it's best not to push down your slower friend and run. Rather, move away slowly and sideways maintaining eye contact.

Personally, I'm not sure how well I'd handle that situation. Which is why I tend to not spend a ton of time in the woods.

Shadow, however, worked for years as a bear dog with a few scars to show for it. That means that not only is Shadow a good boy, but a brave boy.

Shadow is 8 years old and is a Plott Hound. Sadly he lost his owners unexpectedly recently. All he's really known is the hunting dog life. He doesn't know what toys are and he has spent most of his life outside. He's ready to relax on a comfy couch surrounded by love. He is currently available for adoption at Kennebec Valley Humane Society and would love a forever home to enjoy his retirement years.

I mean, you would too after hunting bears, right?

He also has few requests, no cats please and he'd like to be the only male dog in the home.

If you have a soft spot in your heart and room in your home call Kennebec Valley Humane Society to set up a time to meet Shadow! Read all about him and the other pups up for adoption here.
