Power Outages Likely in Maine as Rare South Wind Threatens to Uproot Trees Just Before Christmas
NEWSCENTER Maine Meteorologist Todd Gutner is warning Mainers that power outages are likely on Friday evening, due to a rare winter south wind.
In a tweet this morning, Todd shared a map of likely power outage watch areas, where south wind gusts could top 50 mph.
Gutner explained that because the trees aren't used to strong winds from the south at this time of year, fast speeds of 50 mph will topple some, and power outages will likely follow.
With millions of Americans traveling this weekend ahead of Christmas on Tuesday, this is just *perfect* timing!
We'll keep you posted with weather and power outage news as we get it.
