The Maine state Senate has passed a bill that would ban kids from tanning beds, according to the Portland Press Herald. The bill is now in the hands of Governor Janet Mills. If Mills signs it into law, Maine will join 17 other states that ban minors from tanning.

We conducted an unscientific poll in order to find out how New Englanders feel about this hot topic. Here are the results of our Facebook poll…

As you can see, 86% of the respondents who voted don't think minors should use tanning machines. 14% do not think Maine should ban the use of tanning beds for kids.

By the way, Maine already does not allow kids under the age of 14 to tan, according to the Press Herald. 14- and 15-year-olds must have signed permission, and a parent or legal guardian must be present while they tan in beds.
