Now that July 1 has arrived and stage 3 of the Mills Administration's Restarting Maine’s Economy plan, Palace Playland in Old Orchard Beach is now open, but things will be different.

Starting July 1, only the arcade a Palace Playland will be open and it is utilizing a new card based payment system that is becoming the standard in the arcade industry. No more token machines and money being exchanged.

Visitors will purchase their own game card at kiosks and load it up with credits, then tap it on the reader of any of the games they want to play. Not only is it an easier system than tokens, it eliminates any touching and exchange of money and tokens to reduce the risk of spreading the coronavrius.

There are several other restrictions that Palace Playland has in place that are listed on their website, including mandatory face coverings for anyone over 3 or older with no exceptions, a 50 person capacity in designated areas, social distancing queue at the ticket redemption counter, and hand sanitizing stations throughout the arcade.

Anyone who cannot or refuses to follow the guidelines, will not be allowed in.

Palace Playland is planning to open a limited number of rides at a later date and will make an announcement when they're ready.
