Windham is getting a new restaurant and brewery which, unlike most of the town's restaurants, won't be located on Roosevelt Trail in North Windham.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the former fire station on Main Street in South Windham was sold to Great Falls Construction of Gorham in December and they have plans to transform the building that used to hold firetrucks, into a restaurant and brewery.

South Windham Village sits on the Presumpscot River, with Gorham right on the other side of it. In the early 1900s it became an industrial village due to it's proximity to the river and the Maine Central Railroad, offering paper manufactures easy transportation of materials and product.

Today, South Windham is mostly residential, but with the addition of this new restaurant and brewery, the hope is for it to help revitalize the village and attract more people who might otherwise hit up the numerous restaurants and shops on Roosevelt Trail in North Windham.

An artist's depiction of the renovated fire station shows a beautiful modernization of the building while still seeing its history. The new restaurant and brewery will take a year to complete which puts an opening somewhere in the spring of 2022.
