I had never heard of Patriots' Day before I moved to Maine... And for good reason. It's only celebrated in Maine and Massachusetts, according to my coworkers. Here's what else I found out about Patriots' Day on the Internet: The holiday commemorates the battles of the American Revolution at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts, as per MassLive. It commemorates the secession of Maine from Massachusetts, as well. Through this website, I also found out that Connecticut and Wisconsin celebrate Patriots' Day.

Now, I asked my coworkers if it is a real holiday, meaning "Is the bank/post office closed?" Patriots' Day is a state holiday; thus, banks should be open. The post office should also be open, since it is not a federal holiday. However, city and state offices may be closed.

It's also the day of the Boston Marathon. Tens of thousands of people will be in Bean Town for this annual tradition. Too bad the weather is not feeling patriotic. It looks like it's going to rain all day long.

Happy Patriots' Day!
