New Maine Bakery and Cafe Mère Is Opening Saturday in Cumberland, Maine
Get ready kids, we have a new bakery to put on the list. And based on the résumé behind it, I have a feeling this one is going to become a problem for my wallet.
Mère, I know, the name is amazing, it's a new bakery and café from award-winning pastry chef Georgia Macon and good news, it's opening this Saturday the 26th in Cumberland at 204 Gray Road.
Listen foodies, this isn't just your average “grab a muffin and coffee” situation.
New Cumberland Bakery Alert: Mère Is Opening This Weekend
Macon has worked at some seriously impressive kitchens, including Tartine in San Francisco, and was previously the executive pastry chef for the Prentice Hospitality Group, which includes Twelve, Evo Kitchen + Bar and Douro.
Plates of Portland gave us a little sneak peek and we’re sharing it with you! Check out the video and get a taste of what’s coming!
So, yes… I will be needing to try this immediately.
Mère is going for what Macon calls a technique-driven comfort bakery, with naturally leavened breads, pastries, cakes, savory baked goods and a full coffee and espresso program. The menu includes things like pain au chocolat, cardamom morning buns, Danish pastries, hand pies, quiche and croque madame.
And here's the part that really got my attention as a mom who occasionally looks at the clock and realizes OH NO, WHAT ARE WE HAVING FOR DINNER?
Mère will also have take-and-bake meals like chicken pot pie, slab pizza and shepherd's pie. There will be a small market with pantry staples, cheeses, meats, preserves and Maine-made home goods, too.
Basically, you can get your coffee, your pastry, your lunch and potentially dinner in one stop.
Mère opens Saturday and will be open seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
So… who wants to go get a pastry? Because I am suddenly very available.
