Approximately 992,670 cars are expected to be on the Maine Turnpike this weekend for the Memorial Day holiday, according to the Maine Turnpike Authorities. That's up 1.5 percent from last year, as per the MTA.

Traffic will be heaviest in these spots:

Northbound on the turnpike.
Near the New Hampshire border at the Piscataqua River Bridge.
Southbound on the turnpike.
Southbound on the mainline between miles 103 to 105.
Through construction zones where lane shifts will remain in place (even though workers have the weekend off).

The Maine Safety Patrol will be providing assistance to stranded motorists on the Maine Turnpike.
