Massive Acadia National Park Price Increases Won’t Happen After Public Backlash
Last year, Ryan Zinke, President Trump's Secretary of the Interior, proposed dramatically increasing park entrance fees for most national parks around the country, including Acadia National Park here in Maine.
After a massive public backlash, it looks like those major increases won't happen.
The Bangor Daily News is reporting that the prices for admission are now set to increase by a few dollars, but it looks like Trump's Interior Department has abandoned the proposal to more than double entrance fees.
The BDN says that the Interior Department received more than 109,000 public comments on the proposed price increases from across the country, and almost all of them were opposed.
Even Maine's US Senators bashed the plan. Many people argued that more than doubling entrance fees would make parks inaccessible for many Americans, and cut visitor numbers at a time when the National Park Service is in need of money.
