Maroon 5 released a brand new, nostalgia-filled song called "Memories."

The reflective, sentimental track, released on Friday (September 20), is the band's first single since their chart-topping 2017 hit "Girls Like You" featuring rapper Cardi B. But unlike Maroon 5's previous songs about love and broken relationships, this one looks back on the good times with loved ones who are no longer with us.

According to frontman Adam Levine, who posted on Twitter after the track was released, "Memories" is "for anyone who has ever experienced loss. In other words, this song is for all of us."

During an interview with Apple Music’s Beats 1, Levine also explained why Maroon 5 decided to write this song, as opposed to music about girls and/or relationships like fans are used to.

"I think when you write songs and you're in a band and you do your thing for this long, as you said, you get to the point where, wow, let's take a look at where we're at and maybe have that be reflected in the music in a way," he said.

"Let's try a song that's not about...relationships and not about the broken relationships of the past and let's move on to something that's maybe a little more, even more universal, I think," the singer continued. "And I think it's an amazing moment to have something that forces all of us to take a look at... something that makes us innately human, which is exploring loss and the things that have happened."

[Chorus]
Here's to the ones that we got
Cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
Of everything we've been through
Toast to the ones here today
Toast to the ones that we lost on the way
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
And the memories bring back, memories bring back you

[Verse 1]
There's a time that I remember, when I did not know no pain
When I believed in forever, and everything would stay the same
Now my heart feel like December when somebody say your name
'Cause I can't reach out to call you, but I know I will one day, yeah

[Pre-Chorus]
Everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody hurts someday, ayy-ayy
But everything gon' be alright
Go and raise a glass and say, ayy

[Post-Chorus]
Doo-doo, doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Memories bring back, memories bring back you

[Verse 2]
There's a time that I remember when I never felt so lost
When I felt all of the hatred was too powerful to stop (Ooh, yeah)
Now my heart feel like an ember and it's lighting up the dark
I'll carry these torches for ya that you know I'll never drop, yeah

[Pre-Chorus]
Everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody hurts someday, ayy-ayy
But everything gon' be alright
Go and raise a glass and say, ayy

[Chorus]
Here's to the ones that we got (Oh-oh)
Cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
Of everything we've been through (No, no)
Toast to the ones here today (Ayy)
Toast to the ones that we lost on the way
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories (Ayy)
And the memories bring back, memories bring back you

[Outro]
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no
Memories bring back, memories bring back you
