Maine’s Office Of Elder Affairs Needs Volunteers
As you're digging out from three back-to-back storms, think about how difficult it is for disabled and/or elderly people to remove the ice and snow from their cars, homes and sidewalks. They need your help, especially since the city of Portland fines homeowners who don't clear their sidewalks. The fine is hefty and unforgiving of senior citizens who are physically unable to shovel snow.
The city's Office of Elder Affairs tries to provide help when called upon, but their resources are limited. If you can volunteer or know someone else who would like to get involved, call Linda Weare at (207) 541-6620.
A few hours of your time can really make a difference.
