Women’s Football in Maine is Joining Forces for the Future
What started as a pretty simply message quickly grew into something much bigger, a reminder of what happens when women choose to come together over tearing each other down.
I had the chance to speak with Angie, a player for the Maine Mayhem, the only full-contact women’s tackle football team in Maine.
In a very exciting partnership, a new chapter in Maine women’s sports has been created.
This partnership is one with Maine Mayhem’s Women’s Football team and Blitz Different.
At first look, “partnering” might sound like merging the teams or sharing a field but as Angie explained to me, it’s something more meaningful.
Blitz Different is an all-female flag football team and the Maine Mayhem’s all female tackle football are now joining forces under Maine Women’s Football Inc.
They will remain separate in how they play the game, but are now united in purpose, all to elevate women in football.
Angie shared that this partnership is about shared strength, recourses, visibility, mentorship, and creating opportunities that didn’t ever exist before.
It’s about proving that women don’t have to compete for space, because they can build bigger spaces, together.

Because let’s be honest, when women join, with one vision, they don’t just play the game, they change it. Yeah, that was good wasn't it?
