Maine State Police Looking For Driver of Red Corvette in Auburn and We Think We Know Why
The Maine State Police are looking for the driver of a late model red Corvette seen on Center Street in Auburn near Lee Auto Mall Police are only saying that the driver was involved in an "incident" around 6:45 p.m. on July 20, but some closer examination of photos from the Trooper's dashcam reveals why he's wanted.
A post on the Maine State Police Facebook page showed two photos from Trooper Jeffery Degroot's dashcam. The first shows the red Corvette headed north on Center Street and the status of the Trooper's cruiser with breaks applied and lights and siren on. This would seem to indicate the driver has already done something to warrant a stop and Trooper Degroot is preparing to turn and pursue. You may already see where this is going.
The second photo, taken less than a second later, shows the Corvette beginning to pass the Trooper with the driver seen at the wheel.
A close look a the first picture shows smoke at the light for the entrance to the Auburn Mall.
All signs point to this guy was out for a joy ride in this sweet Corvette and burned some fresh rubber as soon as the light turned green. If police are still looking for him, he probably was driving too fast to make a pursuit safe and got away. None of this is confirmed by police, but it adds up.
Think you know the guy driving this shiny new toy? If you have any info about him or his whereabouts, call 207-624-7076 ext. 9 and ask to speak with Trooper Degroot. He'll be very happy to hear from you.
And now, the song you have in your head after reading this.
