How Many People Spotted the Google Street View Car When It Was in Maine?

Want to feel old? The Google Street View cars that have travelled all over the world have been snapping pictures across the globe for the last 17 years. That's quite an achievement, but what I'm more curious about is how many people walking on the sidewalks and crosswalks in Maine have spotted the Google car. It's not as many as you might think.

What the Google Street View Car Looks Like

If you have never seen the Google Street View car on Maine roads, you're not alone. They don't come around often and the less populated areas you look in will have the least amount of photos.

The video above was put together by Google for Street View's 10th anniversary, and it gives you a good look at what these cars do.

How Many Mainers Spotted the Street View Car?

Well this guy certainly spotted the car in downtown Portand, and if you look in the window of the FedEx Office store, you'll see a reflection of the car.

Hey, Is That the Google Car?

In Westbrook, the woman on the left snapped a picture of the Google car travelling down Main Street. The guy to her left looks like he's in some sort of deep conversation on his phone.

Missed It in Westbrook

This other guy in Westbrook was just concerned about crossing the street, so he missed the car, but you can see its shadow.

Lewiston

The guy taking out the trash walking across Mill Street in Lewiston was solely focused on his job, and the woman behind him appears to be focused on her phone.

Waiting For the Walk Sign

This guy in Westbrook waited for the walk sign while the Google Car walked by. If this were downtown Portland, no one would have waited.

This woman seemed to be passing through the Dunkin' parking lot without any Dunkin' That's not right.

So, how did we do? The sample size is small, with just six pictures, but I'm scoring it as 3, seeing the car among 8 people for a percentage of 37.5 percent.
