Meet Wilbur: Maine’s Most Unexpected Friendship Story
Gather around, this Maine story is bound to give you those good, warm, happy goosebumps.
It’s a reminder that sometimes the most unexpected friendship will turn into something truly special.
According to WMTW, back in November these two friends Evan and Chad were killing some time on break from the Toyota Dealership in Topsham and stumbled upon a porcupine.
Naturally, you walk away, right? Not them.
Well, this cutie was perched in a pretty mall tree outside of the Toyota dealership and quickly became their buddy. They named him Wilbur and frequently visited him. They did daily checks on Wilbur.
WMTW put out a report via YouTube below.
What started as casual visits quickly turned into a daily check-in with their new buddy, Wilbur.
According to the report, once construction began nearby, it became clear that Wilbur wasn’t moving around much, something just didn’t seem right.
Concerned, Wilbur’s buddies stepped in and called for help from Wilderness Miracles: A truly inspiring rescue that says, "Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and care for injured, orphaned, and displaced wildlife with love, dedication, and respect."
Their instincts were spot on and Wilbur was sadly dealing with a leg injury.

After six months of careful treatment and plenty of TLC, he made a full recovery and was finally ready to return to the wild. His release was an emotional moment as you can see in the video, with a truly heartfelt response from those who helped along the way.
It's bittersweet having to say good bye to there buddy and not see him in there walks anymore, but they did the right thing and now Wilbur has a chance for a long and spiky life.
