The time has come in Maine where the fairs hit, and boy do they hit big. We have so many incredible fairs here in Maine that bring our communities together every single year.

There are certain things we look forward to like the rides, animals, or fried dough. There's something for everyone at a Maine fair.

So many big fairs like Fryeburg and Skowhegan State Fair, Topsham, and Windsor. Guys, the list goes on and on and there’s something for everyone.

But here’s the thing, each fair is a little different then the other so it’s helpful to be prepared.

Here’s are a few different questions to ask and things to be prepared for as you and your family are gearing up for fair season

5 Must-Know Tips Before You Hit a Maine Fair This Season

1. Check for Discount Days

This is important to know because some fairs have taken away their discount days. Some fairs offer senior days, military discount days etc. and if you make sure to look at their website or social media you’ll be able to save big before you hit the gate.

2. Wear Comfortable Shoes

You are 100 percent going to rack up steps between the gate and your favorite spots, food stands, and rides. Trust me that sneakers are much better option rather then flip flops.

3. Bring Cash

This is important because not all vendors are able to take cards. Normally at fairgrounds game booths and food trucks like cash and if you go to an ATM at a fair, they love charging deep fees.

4. Check The Pet Policy

There are a ton of farm animals at Maine's agricultural fairs, but can you bring your pup with you? Some fairs are cool with it, some are not, so be sure to check their guidelines on the pet policy before you grab the leash and head over.

5. Map Out You Favorite Attractions

From shows, to live stock, rides and food trucks, in order to hit everything you want you must look at the calendar of events. You don't want to show up ready to watch the demolition derby and instead see the pig races. Be sure to check the event calendar in order to not miss your favorite event.
