Maine’s Underwater Marvel: Aquarium Reopens With Sharks, Jellies & Fun
One of my favorite memories as a kid was going to the aquarium. I would stand really close to the massive fish tank and freak myself out when a huge shark would swim by.
If your wonderful children are complaining of boredom, here’s something that will shake things up. Take them to the Maine State Aquarium in Boothbay Harbor! It officially reopened last month for the season, according to WMTW and is making a huge splash!
I’m talking moon jellies that will glow like aliens and a brand new Learning Lab that is open to the public for the very first time ever!
Yep, there’s even a shark exhibit that will make the kids go crazy. Cue the “Jaw’s” theme.

They went through a major renovation and this spot is now packed with all sorts of new discoveries for your family. There are, of course, returning favorites like the 1,400 gallon tanks filled with Maine-native marine life, as per the article.
And get this, they even have touch tanks where anyone can safely get up close with the sea stars and crabs and learn about them from the staff. Science is fun!
What’s even better is that this Learning Lab offers hands-on exhibits like, “Sharks of the Gulf of Maine,” where you’ll learn about 8 different shark species on our very own coastline.
Education division director Dottie Yunger says,
“The Lab is designed as an interactive space, and this year it features the Sharks of the Gulf of Maine exhibit,”
This amazing place is open Wednesday through Sundays from 10:00am to 3:00 pm until August 31st, as per the article.

Tickets aren’t bad either, prices at $10 for adults and $7.50 for the kids, seniors, and veterans. But, they are only available online, so make sure to plan ahead.
One last thing, you cannot leave until you see the adorably cute lumpfish, trust me.
