LoveFood recently named The Lost Kitchen one of the most beautiful restaurants in America, ranking the iconic Maine spot among some stunning spots in the country.  

Honestly, Maine locals are probably reading this and thinking, “Well, yeah, duh”

This place has become one of those spots that feels mythical.

It’s sitting pretty inside a restored mill in the tiny town of Freedom. And it somehow has turned into a destination that people will travel from everywhere to.

LoveFood really highlighted the restaurant’s rustic charm, exposed wood, cozy atmosphere, and picture-perfect dining spaces, all of which look like they belong on the cover of a lifestyle magazine. 

But what makes The Lost Kitchen stand out isn't just how it looks. It’s the whole experience. 

You can’t just hop online and grab a reservation. Every year, hopeful diners will mail postcards to the restaurant and cross their fingers for a spot.

Yes, actual postcards.

In 2025. Somehow, that makes the whole thing even more charming. While the rest of us are refreshing booking apps and fighting over concert presales, The Lost Kitchen is out here making people buy stamps. 

And it works. 

Part of the magic is that it feels uniquely Maine. It’s beautiful without trying too hard, elegant without being stuffy, and located in a place most people would drive right past if they didn’t know what was inside.

Of course, Maine has plenty of amazing restaurants. The White Barn Inn in Kennebunk and Earth at Hidden Pond are both stunning in their own right. But there’s something about The Lost Kitchen that feels different.
