Did you know Maine has red ticks?

I know, right? Most people in New England are super familiar with deer ticks by now because they’ve ran our lives, but there’s another tick starting to get more attention during our summer months. It’s called the Lone Star tick.

These bugs are known for their red color and the females have a very noticeable white dot on their backs ,which is how they got their name, Lone Star.

Lone Star Tick Bite Can Make You Allergic to Burgers in Maine

They are still pretty rare compared to deer ticks, but they’ve been seen more often in southern and coastal parts of Maine. Now that summer is here, it’s officially the tick season again.

So yeah… it’s officially that time of year again where all of us are digging out the NexGard for the doggos, giving our kiddos tick checks every time they come inside and yelling "DON’T SIT ON THE COUCH YET” after they come running out of the woods.

But these Lone Star ticks are a bit different than the usual deer ticks we hear about every season.

Check out this YouTube vide from WCNC on how to avoid them, below!

They can carry different illnesses and some bites have even been linked to something called Alpha-gal syndrome. I have never heard of this syndrome and it's stupid.

Why? Because according to the CDC, Alpha-gal can make you allergic to red meat.

Imagine being bitten by a tick and suddenly burgers and steak are off the menu. Wild!

So, here's your tip, bug spray! Seriously, being extra aware, spraying yourself and doing checks is the best prevention. Same goes for the doggos!

The good news is you don’t need to panic, just be cautious this summer.
