You don't need to spend a fortune on back-to-school shopping. AJ and Nikki have some tips for you that will save you money.

LISTEN:

Before you go shopping, take an inventory of what your kids already have. There's no sense in buying duplicates of school supplies that are in last year's book bags and their desk drawers. Check your desks, as well. You never know what you'll find.

Teachers will usually send their students a list of everything they will need for the upcoming school year. Stick to this list, and resist the temptation to splurge on school supplies. The stuff you can get at dollar stores works just as well as the things you'll find at more expensive stores. Save that money for the expensive purchases you have to make, such as calculators and computers.

When it comes to pricier items like computers, buy refurbished electronics if you can. Just be careful of scammers and other people who will take advantage of you.

If possible, wait until later in September to buy clothing. That's when you will get the best deals, because stores are making room for next season's fashions.

Happy shopping!
