Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus made their first appearance as a married couple at the G'Day USA Gala over the weekend.

The Hunger Games actor, who was honored at the event with an award for excellence in film, opened up to Extra about their recent wedding, revealing that he feels "very lucky to be with her." Hemsworth, 29, also shared how he and Cyrus managed to keep their nuptials hush hush, telling the outlet it was easier than expected.

"It wasn't hard – we have a small group of friends. It was mainly immediate family, a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing. I am very happy to be where I am," he said.

Asked how it felt to be married, Hemsworth said it was "the same but different." He and Cyrus, 26, have been together so long at this point, he said, it wasn't a major change.

"We've been together for the better part of 10 years," he said.

The couple will be celebrating their first Valentine's Day as husband and wife, and Hemsworth has big plans. After Cyrus outlined all the things she loves about her beau in a poem for his birthday, Hemsworth said he has a lot to live up to.

"I'm definitely going to take that into account and try to top it," he said.
