Laughter Yoga: The Funniest Path To Zen
I was skimming through local stories the other day, when I came across an article about Mary Dempsey leaving the cancer center she helped found. It said she would be focusing her attention on another passion: Laughter Yoga.
Say what? I had never heard of this before, so of course I had to do some digging. It turns out that Laughter Yoga isn't new, it's been around for quite a while now. And it's exactly what it sounds like!
According to Wikipedia, Laughter yoga is based on the belief that voluntary laughter provides the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter. It is performed without any humorous reason to laugh, with one practitioner observing that "The mind does not know that we’re faking it."
There's even a Facebook page that lists Laughter Yoga sessions happening right here in Maine.
Check out the video below to see what it's like. And best of luck to Mary in pursuing her passion!
