Retired Maine K-9 Cal Needs Help Fighting Back After Serious Accident

Every so often the strongest heroes we know need help. K-9 Cal retired from the Westbrook PD back in May of 2023. But before that, he served proudly and honorably with his fellow officers.

He protected and served our communities for years, helping with missing people, tracking and finding suspects, sniffing out drugs, and always standing right next to his handler through it all.

Below is a post as he celebrated his retirement from the Westbrook Police Department.

After all of this, Cal is the one who needs our help.

Loyal K-9 Hero Deserves a Helping Hand

Last week, he was involved in a hit and run and sadly had suffered terrible life threatening injuries.

But because of how quickly those around him reacted, this incredibly strong pup made it through surgery. He has survived but his spleen was removed. Cal was in the ICU for several days before being released to return home.

Cal is now healing and resting. He is sore from the injuries but surrounded by endless love and care.

Everyone who loves him is just so grateful.

But as we all are aware with pet emergencies comes massive bills. When your furry friend has an incident the unexpected financial toll it takes on your family is immense.

Get this, his medical bills have already surpassed $12,000. This is hard for his handler and faithful partner.

Friends have launched this fundraiser on their behalf, for everything they’ve done for the community.

Creators of the fundraiser say, "Out of respect for his handler’s privacy and humility, this fundraiser is being created by friends and supporters who know he would never ask for help himself." 

Cals handler would never ask for help and that’s just one reason why he deserves it.

According to the donation as of today, October 31st contributions are at $625. We've got a ways to go, but we can do it.

Every monetary donation will go towards his recovery and medical bills.
