New Hampshire State and Local Police Jointly Target Aggressive Drivers

Operation Commuter Shield 2024 is well underway in New Hampshire, so drivers, be aware.

The program is a joint effort between the New Hampshire State Police and Nashua Police Department to target drivers who speed and exhibit aggressive driving behavior.

If you think nobody is watching, think again.

It's all about safety on the roadways, so on Monday, May 20, the joint teams patrolled the E.F. Everett Turnpike, which runs from the Massachusetts state line and connects Nashua, Bedford, Manchester, and Concord, New Hampshire. It's approximately a 40-mile-long turnpike.

According to a press release from the New Hampshire State Police, the police pulled over 53 vehicles speeding and/or driving aggressively. They issued 47 citations, and made one arrest.

According to the Nashua Police Department,

141 vehicles were stopped. Half of the vehicles were traveling in excess of 20 mph over the posted speed limit. As a result, 88 warnings and 53 summons were issued for various motor vehicle violations and 1 arrest.

Let's think about that for a minute.  If half of the drivers pulled over were going more than 20 mph over the speed limit, and the speed limit is 55 mph on that part of the highway, most drivers were upwards of 75 mph on a very congested roadway with many exits close to each other.

The effort by the joint police departments is to deter speeding and dangerous driving while educating the public. Remember, the State Police's main job is to keep the roadways safe, so this program goes a long way in achieving that goal.
