Franconia Notch State Park has earned some well-deserved honors from Travel + Leisure after it was named one of the best state parks in the country.

If you've ever driven through the scenic mountain pass, hiked its trails, or looked out at the gorgeous natural scenery, you can totally understand why this park would be getting national recognition.

It's a New England gem right in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest.

Franconia Notch State Park Named Best State Park in New Hampshire

Travel + Leisure released a list that highlighted the best state park in every state, calling out Franconia Notch State Park in New Hampshire.

The travel site immediately noted the towering Flume Gorge as part of its reason for landing the "best spot."

According to New Hampshire State Parks, the Flume Gorge stretches 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty and has granite walls that are about 90 feet high. If you want to explore it, you'll take a 2-mile loop walking over boardwalks and a lot of stairs to see the natural beauty, including the rushing water and falls.

Travel + Leisure also mentioned Echo Lake Beach and Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway as other examples of things to do at the state park. And that's only a small taste of the various options you have when visiting.

The New Hampshire State Park website also lists fly fishing at Profile Lake, riding bikes on the Recreational Trail, checking out Cannon Cliffs, and hiking the Appalachian Trail.

The family-friendly park boasts a lot to do if you're looking for a fun adventure.

Franconia Notch State Park Was Once the Home of the Old Man of the Mountain

Beyond the scenery, Franconia Notch State Park also carries a sense of history and legacy. It was, in fact, the home of the Old Man of the Mountain.

The iconic landmark sadly fell in 2003, but the memories live on.
