I don't know whose idea this was, but I LOVE it.

The Kennebunk Free Library started to foster cats in June 2023, in partnership with the Animal Welfare Society.

The cats are up for adoption.  Sometimes a cat can stay at the library for up to two weeks, but their fastest adoption is two hours, according to News Center Maine.

The cats must LOVE the library.  All those high places to jump up onto, not to mention all the nooks and crannies they can hide in.

What a fabulous idea.

I went to the Kennebunk Free Library's website, and there is nothing about the cats on there at all, so I gave them a call to make sure that they still foster kitties.

They said they did, but they don't put it up on their website.

The nice woman I spoke to said that it's a great program where the cats are able to roam about and play with people.  The library patrons can get to know the animals, maybe work from there and make sure the cat will be a good fit for them.

You are seeing cats incorporated into more and more businesses.  Take the Tipsy Tabby in Newmarket, New Hampshire, for example.  They have cats running around all the time.

If you have an allergy to cats, first of all, I'm really sorry about that.  The cats at the library look like they roam freely, so be aware of that.

They don't always have cats, so it's better to call first or just check out which ones are adoptable at the Animal Welfare Society.
