I'm scared.

I was talking about Duston's Bakery in Dover, New Hampshire, to a co-worker of mine this morning, and she said, "Oh, they're closed."

WHAT?!

According to a member of the Facebook group Seacoast Eats, a sign at the property read, "Dustons is closed until further notice.  On Sunday, we had a major mechanical failure.  We are attempting to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.  We will be closed for at least 3-4 days.  Sorry for the inconvenience."

In looking at the comments on the Facebook page, one of them said they saw a Notice of Foreclosure Sale.  I looked that up and lo and behold, it was true, I found the Notice online.

The notice said, "Turnkey Market, Bakery and Deli - Business and Real Estate, Public Auction, 153 Portland Avenue, Dover, NH  03820, Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 11am."

The auction had been scheduled for last Wednesday, November 6, 2024, however, according to the auctioneer, Stanley J. Paine, the auction was canceled.

Seems like a good sign for Duston's to potentially re-open? Maybe?

The foreclosure notice said the property was built in 1966.  Taxes in 2023 were $18,784.  Yikes!

There are other comments on the Facebook page from people who want "Bob," the former owner, to take the place back.  People are saying how his heart must be breaking to see the place potentially close its doors.

Their website is still up and their Facebook page says nothing. If you call the phone number on the website, it has been discontinued.

I can't say that it's closed for good, but if it's a financial situation that the owners are trying to resolve, it might take a while.

Let's hope for the best.  It hurts my heart to see another business close, especially one like Duston's which has been around for decades.

What do you think is happening with the property?
