A 2024 New England Gift for NYC: Rockefeller Center’s Iconic Christmas Tree Comes from Massachusetts
A tree from Massachusetts is going to be the center of attention at Rockefeller Center in New York City this 2024 Christmas season.
According to WPRI, a family from West Stockbridge is donating the tree this year: a Norway Spruce tree that is about 70 years old and stands about 74 feet tall.
The news station added that this beauty weighs about 11 tons.
Each year, the tree that is chosen has reached its full maturity and is cut down on the donor's property. For as long as I can remember, it's been a Norway Spruce.
The tree will be put in place and decorated, and the lighting of the tree will be broadcast for all to see on NBC.
Rockefeller Center, New York City
I have gone to Rockefeller Center in New York City to see the tree with my own eyes. It is more magnificent in real life than you could ever imagine. It's hard to describe 70 feet tall until you see it for yourself.
The only thing that I didn't like about the visit to see this beautiful tree was all the other people who had the same idea. Millions and millions of people make the same pilgrimage to the Big Apple to see the spectacle for themselves.
The year just before the pandemic, in 2019, a friend and I went to see the tree. The crowds trying to snap a picture were so large there were times that you didn't need to use your own feet to take a step forward. The crowd just kind of pushed you along.
For me, it's so worth it. There is something so exciting about New York City around Christmastime. Maybe it's all those old magical movies we grew up with.
Will you go see the tree this year?
