These Towns in Maine Have the Fastest Internet Speeds
If you live in Maine and it took more than a few seconds to pull this article up to read, you might be in a town that doesn't offer high-speed internet. However, some towns in Maine are breaking the mold with lightning-fast internet speeds.
First up, let's talk about Portland, Maine's biggest city. According to highspeedinternet.com, they are currently leading the charge with 152.9 Mbps via Consolidated Communications. So, if you’re in the area, there is a pretty solid chance you can say goodbye to the spinning wheel of death, if you haven't already.
Just behind Portland in the #2 spot is Falmouth, with an average download speed of 151.94 Mbps via Spectrum. Followed by Biddeford at #3 with 151.27 Mbps, Kittery at #4 with 150.78 Mbps and rounding out the top 5 is Bangor with 147.85, via Consolidated Communications.
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room. If you haven't seen it, it's here. According to the 2023 highspeedinternet.com customer survey, Maine, despite these internet havens, is ranked #42 in the country for internet customer satisfaction. We rank high in a lot of commendable areas, but internet speed does not appear to be one of them.
This is partly due to rural areas with limited access (and sadly, Maine has a lot of them), outdated equipment as some parts of Maine aren't able to keep up as updating all of this stuff takes time and money. Lastly, stacked up to other states, we also don't have as many internet providers to choose from.
So, while some towns in Maine are cruising the internet fast lane, others are stuck in the slow lane. I have heard talk that the state is making this problem a priority so hopefully our corner of the country can catch up soon, because we all deserve a buffer-free binge-watching session... or more importantly, be able to sufficiently work from home.
