The Only Macy’s Store in Maine is in Jeopardy of Closing

There is a battle of the haves and have-nots in the retail world going on right now. In some cases, the same company is battling itself.

That seems to be the case with Macy's. The iconic retailer announced in January that they would be cutting their workforce nationwide to offset some losses the brand had suffered, as well as new expenditures that had arisen.

Just a month later, Macy's has gone a step further. According to CNN, Macy's plans to close at least 150 stores nationwide by 2026. 50 of those store closures will come over the next several months as the company begins to focus their attention (and budget) on some of their better-performing brands.

Large Macy's stores are the cornerstone of many malls and shopping centers across the United States. That includes the Maine Mall, where Macy's two-floor department store is the pillar of an entire wing. Will it be one of the Macy's stores to be shuddered?

That will depend on performance and expense. As CNN reported, the 150 store closures will be determined by whether the store is underperforming compared to other Macy's locations and competitors in the area, as well as operational expenses to keep the store open with quality customer service.

If the Macy's in the Maine Mall doesn't close, it will definitely look different in the coming years. For the 350 Macy's locations the company plans to keep open, almost all of them will get a facelift to include brands and items shopping have been demanding for years.

The announcement on the first set of store closures is expected in the coming weeks.
