In case you haven't noticed, Maine has become a four-season destination for many tourists. Coastal towns and beaches are packed in the summertime, ski mountains and snowmobile trails are filled in the winter. Spring and fall seem like the perfect time to enjoy comfortable weather and small town charm.

Which means, if you're looking to experience Maine without having to deal with too many people, you've got to be strategic about it. Especially if you're looking to spend some time in Kennebunkport, Maine. Finding the small pockets of the year where you can embrace some small town charm without spending an arm and a leg can be a challenge.

The secret is truly the month of November. According to New England Wanderlust, Kennebunkport is one of the best towns in Maine to visit in November. Many of the best restaurants and shops are still open, the beaches and scenic walks are still enjoyable (if you're willing to put up with a brisk breeze) and the crowds are so diminished that you can feel like the small town has stopped in place just for you.

At many of the resorts, hotels, inns and Airbnbs, you'll find off-season pricing making a weekend trip affordable. You can use your savings there to visit some of the unique gift shops around Dock Square and beyond. Not only that, you'll beat the Christmas crowds that pile into Kennebunkport for their annual Prelude celebration.

Biking in and around Kennebunkport is far more pleasant in November. The air is cooler and the vehicular traffic is minimal. Absorb what is left of the fall foliage and see the quintessential town from a different perspective.

There's also some charter boats still available to be booked for those willing to bundle up and head out to sea. The seaside view of Maine in the summer is gorgeous but the autumn view isn't bad either.
