Maybe it's time to add a furry friend to your home. I have to say, it's been pretty awesome to see the growing popularity of pet adoption from shelters. Understandably, there are animal lovers that are looking for a specific breed of animal. But many who just want to provide a comforting a home for an animal in need are going to one of the many pet adoption shelters here in Maine.

With it being National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, I thought it would be a good opportunity to share the info on many different locations throughout the state of Maine that have dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, and other animals all looking for their forever homes.

Adopting a pet from a shelter or a rescue is not only more affordable, but you're providing a loving home to an animal in need of one, whether it's a kitten or a puppy or a senior pet that was dropped off for one of a multitude of reasons.

Typically, the age and the breeds of the animals are big factors in determining the cost of adoption. But you can almost always plan on the pets coming home with you with all of their up-to-date shots, medical records, and any important information that you will need moving forward.

I am a huge fan of the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland. They are an amazing organization, and I've had great success adopting cats from them in the past. If the greater Portland area isn't where you are, there are many options throughout the state of Maine. Thanks to our friends at Chewy, you can check out a full list here.
