Who doesn't love a little nostalgia, especially when it's Maine-related?

Let’s take you back to 1993, when grunge music dominated the airwaves, Crystal Pepsi was all the rage, and everyone was buzzing about a little movie called Jurassic Park.

However, there was something else that happened in 1993 that clearly superseded all the pop culture and lore of that time: I’m talking about this gem of a television commercial for a tasty Saco burger joint.

Behold, in all its glory, folks! Literally everything about this Rapid Ray's commercial is flawless.

Perhaps I should explain Rapid Ray's to those who are unfortunately unaware of this gem. Rapid Ray's is an iconic fast food joint in Southern Maine. Located right on Main Street in Saco, the restaurant has been an institution in the town ever since it opened in 1953.

Rapid Ray's offers burgers, hot dogs, chicken, lobster rolls, and other fried seafood delights, plus delicious fries and onion rings. They even have chocolate milk. I mean, how many places can say that?

Apparently, in the early '90s, the marketing team at Rapid Ray's decided it was time to further expand its sphere of influence with a television commercial. Not just any television commercial, though—one that gave us all the goods. Let’s break it down in all its glory.

Plenty of Mustaches

Nothing screams early '90s like a couple of bros rocking some crumb catchers. I know hipsters have made it cool to sport the lip broom again, but these are true vintage bad boys. Nice work, fellas.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

You can't have a restaurant commercial without showing everyone working together like it ain't no thing. Because, as we all know, there's definitely not going to be any work drama at Rapid Ray's.

Customer Interaction

Rapid Ray's has always been a very hospitable establishment. The staff is wonderful, and they really do treat you like family. So how do you advertise that in a commercial? Well, without a very awkward left-handed shake with a customer—that's how.

Satisfied Child

I don't care what the product or establishment might be; when appropriate, you need to show off a satisfied kid. We got a great one in this commercial. I mean, just look at how happy this kid is to be hammering some choccy milk! On a side note, I'd love to meet this kid, who is probably pushing 40 at this point.

Creative Fonts

Is this a commercial or the beginning of a late '80s sitcom? Who can tell the difference? And this is not a criticism; quite frankly, it's perfect.

And how could I go without giving some love to the jingle? It's catchy, entertaining, and fits the vibe perfectly. I can't get over how much I love that they tried to rhyme "fries" with "my-oh-my." Hey, it works.

Huge props to everyone involved with this project from 1993. The writer, director, music coordinator, and the Rapid Ray's staff were all wonderful. This is pure nostalgia at its finest. I'm so happy they shared this with the world again.

Also, Rapid Ray's should definitely start running this ad again. It would absolutely smash.
