As the Colors Fade: Maine’s Fall Foliage Season Comes to a Bittersweet End
The colors are disappearing as the leaves continue to fall here in Maine.
We’re are wrapping up the 2025 fall foliage season, and let’s be honest, it’s always a bit of a bummer.
The foliage season has cruised by, with reports now dropping weekly. According to Maine.gov, we have already passed peak season in the majority of the state with peak normally around end of October for Southern Maine.
Warm temps and cool nights early in the season were a huge help. They also created a wonderful atmosphere for folks to enjoy the leaves while taking part in other fall activities. However, the last few weeks have been much more typical, with cooler daytime temperatures taking over.
So, how do things look this week? Thanks to the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry's Maine Foliage Report, we can see exactly where things stand.
Welp, that’s a wrap, folks. Time to shut it down and get ready for winter, I guess. The state has gone purple, which means we’ve passed peak and are now looking forward to the white stuff—at least all of us skiers.
While it’s sad to see the season end, we can at least look back at what was a very solid foliage season. Those unseasonably warm temperatures were certainly a big boost for everyone out enjoying the colors. I mean, who didn’t love a little apple cider and beautiful foliage while basking in 80-degree temperatures?
Now comes the worst part of the entire year: picking up all those leaves. The absolute worst.
Happy cleanup, everyone.
