Is it ever too early to start thinking about Christmas?

Maybe. Maybe not.

But the fact is that the holidays are right around the corner, and there are already some family-fun activities you can get excited about, including the return of The Polar Express Train Ride to Portland, Maine.

Hosted by the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad, the event invites passengers of all ages to board a beautifully decorated, historic train to be whisked away on a scenic ride along the waterfront to the North Pole.

Once onboard, families are treated to live storytelling of "The Polar Express" children's book by friendly conductors and engaging staff, all decked out in character costumes.

You and the kids can wear pajamas and sip on hot chocolate in this festive experience, too.

Oh, and the big guy himself will even make an appearance.

That's right, Santa Claus, will board the train, greet each child, and present them with a special silver bell, a meaningful memento from the story.

It's a magical holiday moment for sure.

Can you believe there were over 23,000 passengers that took the ride in 2023? That's a lot of holiday cheer.

The 2024 train rides start mid-November through December 23, and you can get tickets here.

The Polar Express Train Ride in Portland is a blend of holiday enchantment and timeless family tradition, and it's great for Maine families looking for a festive outing that feels like stepping into a Christmas story.
