WMTW reported that the UPS driver, Ryan Long, needed to make deliveries in flooded Mercer, Maine. Jody Churchill shared a picture of Ryan using Butch's boat. Who's Butch? He's a neighbor who put his boat out for people to use. Santa would be proud that Christmas presents made their way to homes in Mercer, Maine.

Ryan knew that people were worried about how long they would be stuck, and that this was crunch time! His truck was filled with presents that people were looking for and worried about. So, he saw the boat, and loaded it up like it was Santa's sleigh! He had a little help too. The neighbors came to help him get the packages off the boat.

A woman told WMTW that the boat was her husband's, and that they use it to get to the Post Office. Butch's boat was a lifesaver in getting neighbors their packages, mail, gas for generators, and food. Thanks, Butch!

This is Maine at its best. I love this story for so many reasons, but mostly because it's all about community and helping. This deadly storm was the absolute last thing Maine needed a week before Christmas, but the true spirit of the season was alive and well in Mercer, Maine (in between Farmington and Skowhegan). I hope Santa was extra nice to this sweet little town and got the roads repaired promptly.
