It can feel like a total blindside, especially if you had a great time at the eatery, taking in all the ambiance and delicious food.
Sadly, a number of Brunswick, Maine, restaurants had to close their doors in 2024 and leave behind only the memories of good times and great meals. Some of them have even been open for multiple decades.
Tao Yaun in Brunswick, Maine
Tao Yaun, which opened in 2012, closed during the pandemic and then reopened again in 2023, offered Asian cuisine served up on a number of small plates. According to Down East, the place even earned multiple James Beard Award nominations over the years.
According to an Instagram post, Tao Yaun announced its closure in May 2024 and that sister restaurant Bao Bao would be taking over the space.
Maiz in Brunswick, Maine
Maiz Colombian Street Food, which opened in 2022, served up Latin American dishes. The restaurant announced on Facebook it would be closing in August 2024.
While the eatery thanked people for their support, it also noted that you can still visit Maiz at its Portland location.
Pancho Villa in Brunswick, Maine
Hacienda Pancho Villa, which opened in 2005, served up enchiladas, tacos and other Mexican dishes.
The restaurant announced in a short Facebook post that after 20 years it would be closing in August 2024.

They noted they would be starting a new chapter and thanked all the employees for their hard work.
Joshua's Restaurant & Tavern in Brunswick, Maine
Joshua's Restaurant & Tavern, which opened in 1990, was a year-round tavern that offered your typical pub fare like hamburgers, nachos and sandwiches along with steak, seafood and a number of beers on tap.
The restaurant announced its decision to close in an August 2024 Facebook post with a final day being September 28.
Nomad in Brunswick, Maine
Nomad, which opened in 2022, served up wood-fired pizzas.
In a Facebook post, the restaurant revealed its last day open would be in November 2024 and its appreciation for the "community's embrace."
Scarlet Begonias in Brunswick, Maine
Scarlet Begonias, which opened in 1995, was a casual eatery that served up Italian dishes and some other pub fare.
The restaurant announced in a Facebook post that after nearly 30 years, they would be closing in November 2024
A new spot called Pomelia is set to take over the location.
