There's something to be said for those who help stories come alive. When a tale leaps off the page because creative minds help breathe life into characters, the experience can be incredible.

A recent interaction between a mom from Maine, and some children's librarians at the Bangor Public Library, who helped this inspired mother go the extra mile for her daughter, is the stuff great stories are made of.

As the Bangor Public Library posted on its social media page, the idea stemmed from an appreciation of the beloved Beatrix Potter character Peter Rabbit.

"A patron came in a few weeks ago looking for a copy of 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit'. She said she wanted to replicate Peter's coat for her daughter's rabbit."

For those not familiar with what Peter looks like, he wears an iconic blue overcoat like the one seen here (on these adorable pillows I saw for sale recently at Marshall's.)

The staff hopped into action, and produced the book, as a guide, for the mother. She used the example of Peter's picture in the book to recreate the little coat. What blew the librarians away was that the coat wasn't for a toy, but an actual rabbit that the mom made the outfit.

"Library staff found her the book thinking she meant a stuffed rabbit. But, lo and behold, it was a real rabbit! Introducing... Melvin Rabbit! "

Have you ever seen such a delightful sight?

When they posted the story online, people were captivated by the story.

"THIS is what the internet was made for. Most days I feel like the internet tells me TOO MUCH. Today, this was just enough 😌❤️ Thank you," wrote one woman.

"OMG! I LOVE THIS! And look how he stands so handsomely in his new coat!
This is a day brightener! Thank you! (He’s NOT a Melvin’s. He IS a Peter….)," commented another.

"This is the BEST THING EVER! My Children’s Librarian heart is jumping for joy!"

As a former Reading Rainbow fan who would go on to homeschool her kids, I'd be willing to be that this lady's daughter won't soon forget her encounters with her very own Peter/Melvin.

Thank you to the Bangor Public Library for sharing and for the inspired mom for going above and beyond to help bring the story of Peter Rabbit from the page to real life.
