A publication recently named the main street of a small town in Maine as one of the prettiest in all of America.

Listen, we’ll admit we’re a little biased, but we honestly think a list celebrating beautiful main streets across America could’ve been filled entirely with small towns from right here in Maine. That said, only one made the cut this time—and what a standout choice it is.

So, with that in mind—and acknowledging that this is 100% subjective—what exactly makes one main street prettier than another? And what criteria are they looking at?

Daily Passport selected five small towns across the country with main streets that stand out for their visual appeal and welcoming vibe. They focused on features like charming architecture, locally owned shops, and a friendly atmosphere that invites visitors to linger and explore.

Alright, with that covered, which small town in Maine is apparently home to one of the ‘prettiest’ main streets in the entire country?

According to Daily Passport and their recent report highlighting ‘5 of America’s Prettiest Small-Town Main Streets,’ the very first town mentioned is Bar Harbor—and specifically, Bar Harbor’s main street. Daily Passport had the following to say about their selection:

Bar Harbor is best known for being the gateway to Acadia National Park, one of Maine’s most treasured natural wonders. While biking the Carriage Roads and hiking Cadillac Mountain at sunrise are must-do activities, Bar Harbor is the perfect small town to enjoy after a day exploring Maine’s nature.

Bar Harbor’s Main Street is full of character, lined with colorful Colonial Revival-style homes that now house cozy restaurants, gift shops, and ice cream parlors.

Daily Passport continues by highlighting stops for local seafood, ice cream, and shops, ending your stroll with scenic views of the harbor and Bar Island, which is walkable at low tide.
