I have been in the state of Maine for 33 years now and take it from me, there are certain things you are not allowed to say to Mainers.

I have now officially morphed into a resident that also gets insulted when you say anything bad about Moxie.

10 Things I've Learned You Should Never Say to Mainers

If you're chatting with a Mainer in the fall, there are some things you definitely shouldn’t say unless you're looking for a serious side-eye.

For starters, fall is vital for Mainers. Why? Because there’s nothing better than looking at the leaves during our stunning autumnal season. We are all big peepers and if you don’t respect that, get out. So if someone says to you, “It’s just leaves; what’s the big deal?” Keep your composure and walk away.

To a Mainer, the fall foliage is practically a religion. Watching the trees explode with colors isn’t just a hobby, it’s a legit ritual.

Disrespect the leaves, and you’ll be disrespecting the very essence of the Fall season in Maine.

Oh! And another one, if you start asking me why I need to buy another flannel, we're no longer friends. It's a right of passage here and if you don't understand that, bye-bye.

One more thing, pumpkin spice is a mandatory flavor in your coffee diet during the autumnal season in Maine and don't you forget it.
